I love everything about birds from their song to their beautiful silhouette. Join me for this creative and informative on-demand class. I demonstrate how to make my stylistic sculpted birds using a combination of the pinch, slab and coil methods. These pre-recorded videos will take you through my process as we explore the look and feel of birds while creating them in clay.Â
This class includes 23 instructional videos of multiple demonstrations that touch on the various aspects of the handbuilding process, a brief presentation about birds and their movements, thoughts about design and other aspects of creating a sculptural ceramic bird.

Have you ever wondered how I create the intricate surfaces on my pieces with underglaze? In this class, I will share my approach to underglaze surface decoration including how I think about design segmenting, color blocking, blending underglaze, my wet sgraffito technique and how I paint fine lines to create the detail and design on the surfaces of my sculptural birds. In this introductory class, I recommend starting with a simple design on your bird so that you have the time to learn the basic techniques.Â
If you didn’t take my Handbuilding Stylized Bird class prior to this one, you can substitute your own small sculptural piece. Bone dry clay is preferred for the class as it will allow your piece to dry faster after each underglaze application.Â
Skill Level: A basic understanding of ceramics is necessary. No drawing skills are needed as participants can take a photo of their desired imagery and copy it with tracing paper.
With the world continuing to be off balance, I’m trying to find some simplicity and serenity. What better way to do that than create a wall piece that features a visual element that brings peace of mind. Whether it’s a morning cup of coffee or listening to a singing bird that relaxes you, we can create a wall piece centered around it.Â

Looking for a creative jump start? Then start small and check out this fun jewelry class which focuses on creating small works of art that you can wear. We’ll start out with basic shapes made from thin slabs of clay like squares, rectangles & circles and then experiment to create new shapes, keeping the surfaces smooth so they can be painted with underglazes or the finish of your choice. The focus will be on pendant, pin and earring shapes.Â

In this class, you will learn how to create cool tiles with intricate border patterns and a central design. Wet color sgraffito is a fast, spontaneous technique that allows you to carve directly into wet underglaze to create border patterns on your tile. Once they dry, painted underglaze is used to create intricate color overlays and an image in the center of your tile.
